Energy Saving

Energy Savings – in Cost and CO2 emmissions

We hear so much about saving energy but how can we afford to invest in it?

As we move into 2010 we all know that unless we take energy saving seriously we will be helping mankind to destroy this wonderful planet that provides us with so much.

The Kyoto Protocol and our comittment to reducing Greenhouse gas emmissions

You may know that under the Kyoto Protocol, we in the UK have agreed that by 2008-2012 we must reduce our baseline emissions of six major greenhouse gases by 12.5 per cent from the baseline target set in 1990. In addition to this we have comitted, under the draft Climate Change Bill  to reduce our CO2 emissions by at least 26% by 2020. Our long term goal is an 80% reduction by 2050.

Did you know that central heating boilers account for around 60% of the carbon dioxide emissions in a gas heated home?

Badly serviced boilers

At 1st Action we take energy savings very seriously as badly serviced equipment and appliances not only cost you personally a lot of money on your energy bills but are wasting valuable finite resources that both this country and the planet cannot afford to waste.

Is your existing boiler working efficiently? At 1st Action our boiler engineers call at so many premises where the gas boiler is not working efficientlyand not only is gas being wasted but CO2 emmissions are excessive.

We see gas cookers where the old burners are worn and burning unecessary excess gas to heat a saucepan or kettle and both gas and electric fires wasting huge amounts of fuel.

We are concerned that although many people are well aware of the need to save energy they consider that the cost  of these steps that they need to take are beyond their budgets and the payback time on new technology is too long.

It is true that there is new more efficient equipment and appliances now available and that they do need an investment to buy and install but it is so essential that existing equipment is surveyed and properly serviced regularly.

Even if you do install the latest high efficiency boiler along with a sophisticated control system but your heating system is full of sludge deposits you will still be wasting energy that you will be paying for as after heating the water it will not distribute evenly throughout your central heating system.

We are concerned that whilst a greta deal of publicity is given to the new technologies becoming available the first and least expensive solutions for many householders is to check and service their existing equipment.

1st Action offers boiler servicing both on an ad hoc basis and by annual contract and the costs are usually recovered from savings in youe energy bills.

Some of the New Energy Technologies Available

By fitting a new high efficiency condensing boiler and improving your heating controls, you will significantly cut your home’s carbon dioxide emissions and could save as much as £275 a year.

As the current lifespan of a boiler is around 15 years, choosing a heating system with a high efficiency condensing boiler with the correct heating controls can make a huge difference to your heating bills over time.
